Creating From Nothing

That's why I paint. I can be having a bad day, the best day, a sad or ill day, and when I sit in front of my pad, it's time to start over. Not looking at the last painting, not trying to "do better" or make a nicer one. I really don't even know if these ARE nice pieces; ha! I guess we will see; the opening at the PFO Gallery is tomorrow and I am curious as to how it will go. Not even necessarily for me, but just how these "things" go... Here are 2 more paintings, from nowhere each time, and as I've said before... This is what comes out of me.

Unstressed?

Am I unstressed? I did everything I could today to get unstressed, and it was like there was some impish being following me around saying "oh no you don't, not that easy!" Exhausting. So although it's been a rough day in odd ways, I am happy to post some more paintings, which reminds me, I need to paint today! This is what comes out of me.

A Post About Paint

NESTING

HAMMOCK
Well, it's not always about paint, and today it is. In my years as an artist I have always enjoyed paint and pigment as medium. Included in this I'll say I really enjoy printmaking as well, although it has been decades since I have done any printing. I adore the flexibility (sometimes too flexible!) of paint, I love the sheerness, the layering, the thickness, the permanence, the impermanence, the fluidity - literally, and the ways I have experimented in manipulating it. Most of these works are dyes, watercolors and some crayon and colored pencil. I like how one begins and you can't tell where use of the other ends. I find myself at times using the same brushstroke over and over and over again, sitting and reinforcing the motion. For me it's the motion, not always the colors. I quite often don't use more than 3 colors, at least not for now. But the motion itself - very rigid sometimes, and then at other times super flowing and expressive - and both are expressive... This is what comes out of me.

Process...

So it goes... the process of putting my art up continues, I paint, I post. It's a balancing act. I'm sometimes so intellectualized I get nothing done. I am at a point where this is nearly part of my routine, so far, so good! This is what comes out of me!

Allergies!

Don't know what it is, I'm allergic to something! Down for the count as it were! At least I get to paint and chill out; not much structure in my life at the moment... Here are three more paintings! This is what comes out of me...

I listen to a lot of music. I'm too scattered to work on a music blog, and I fit right in with the freeform element of WFMU. It's rare that I'm not listening to something, regardless of the genre. My art is not necessarily influenced by what I listen to, at least I don't think so. Latest couple of paintings... This is what comes out of me!

Had a chance to live a little bit today and take small bites of fresh air, mmmm! Cracked my back and my neck and have returned to toss a few more paintings on here. With Care, uh huh, oh yes!  This is what comes out of me!

Together

What beautiful weather, motorcycles and kids playing ball; deer out taking a stroll as well. It's hard to take myself away from doing nothing and absorbing the outside - to post these! But I am on a mission to at least have this work out there so I don't feel like I'm a hermit with my artwork. Three more today! This is what comes out of me...

Music Day

Departure

Bigfoot

Spring

So today at WFMU I got to host Mike Hudson as my special guest DJ. Mike's published his fifth book, this one a novel, and is the vocalist of the legendary Pagans from the Cleveland late 70's punk scene. A total honor to have him on my program, for sure! Later in the evening I got to engineer a set by Wretched Worst from KY, for Wm. Berger's My Castle of Quiet program. Quiet it was not; wonderfully intriguing it was!!!! Here's 3 more paintings... This is what comes out of me..

Ack! Ack!

I promised myself I'd get a few paintings up every day. Today I was going through a ton of photographs and I nearly forgot about the paintings so here are TWO...  distracted by preparing for my radio show which is tomorrow and I'm pretty psyched, as Mike Hudson, lyricist extraordinaire is my guest for the program. Tune in on 91.1FM for the show at Noon or on www.wfmu.org. I'll be playing Pagans and Styrenes songs as well as some of Hudson's solo stuff and then we'll be chatting...oh yes we will. RIGHT! Back to the paintings! This is TRULY what comes out of me!

Departure
Three more up today, many to go. I'm enjoying looking at these pieces, revisiting them, if you will. Some I remember exactly what I was feeling during the creation process, and many recall the process itself. Watercolor is deceptively difficult, the sheerness, the potency of some dyes, the texture, the WATER! Yay! After I get these posted I'm going to go paint some more. This is what comes out of me...

More Work!

I really don't feel like saying anything about these right now, although I see that I am grateful for using my time to create. Love how sheer watercolor can be. Still can't believe how long it had been since painting...well - no more! The floodgates have opened! This Is What Comes Out Of Me...

Progress...? Recent Works

It's going to take me awhile to get all these up; the paintings are too large to scan, which although somewhat time consuming, would have made them easier to put up. I'm photographing all my pieces, which means I'm figuring out JUST the correct angle and JUST the correct height, setting to use AND then I have to choose from 90 photos of the same picture because I'm a LEETLE controlling about it all... here's some more, and yea, I know that's really what's at the heart of it.... This Is What Comes Out Of Me

Cycles
Almost tossed this one; started as a brush cleaning exercise; decided I liked the texture.

Rabid

A lot of people have been rabid lately; almost literally. I don't pretend to know what's going on, grateful I've got some calm in my life! Too many that are close to me and that I interact with have nutzoid happenings. Whew!

Getting the Backlog Out

I stopped tattooing in 2009 and realized how much I miss creating about a year ago. I create
paintings; mostly watercolor at the moment. I also photograph bands and unusual items which
you'll see from time to time.

This is what comes out of me.
